A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:
The survey was campus wide, distributed by email and via social media to all AUS community members. The survey was supported by Qualtrics survey software.
A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment, including a description of any measurable changes over time:
The implementation process began by running pre-surveys in order to
quantitatively and qualitatively determine habits across the community. The survey questioned sustainability behaviors such as commuting, water usage, recycling and feelings towards AUS sustainability processes. For example on the topic of water usage, it was determined that only 32.7% of the community limit
their water use in order to conserve resources, and a relatively smaller portion of
the community was willing to limit water use through methods including taking
shorter showers, 23.6%, or reduce irrigation areas, 16.1%. Data was also collected
to determine plastic bottle waste, and it was shown that 88.1% of the community
always preferred bottled water, with 48.5% opting for the individual bottles and the
remainder opting for water coolers.
