When Agnes Scott College began its sustainability program, the Office of Sustainability established the Sustainability Steering Committee (SSC). The committee guided the initial sustainability plan and climate action plan, while also providing assistance for all aspects of the college’s sustainability program, including STARS. The committee was made up of trustees, alumnae, students, faculty, and staff and was chaired by President Elizabeth Kiss.

In 2015, the Office of Sustainability transitioned to the Center for Sustainability which marked a transition from sustainability planning to program implementation. As a result, the Center transitioned the SSC into programmatic committees that provide guidance and planning on some of the college’s programmatic priorities, including the Arboretum Advisory Committee and the Green Revolving Fund Committee. These two committees meet three to four times a year and have been instrumental in guiding two of the Center’s hallmark programs. Members of each committee are listed below.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
The Center for Sustainability strives to connect all aspects of campus life together to reach the common goals of living in a sustainable way and reducing the College’s carbon footprint. The Center is housed within the Office of the President. First a sustainability office was opened in 2008, following the appointment of Agnes Scott College’s first director of sustainability, Susan Kidd. In 2015, the office became the Center for Sustainability with Kidd as the executive director. In addition, the Center always has at least one recent graduate, more frequently two, hired in the Sustainability Fellow position. These positions have included hiring Fellows to focus exclusively on GHG emissions/climate action planning and LEED certification.

The Executive Director of the Center for Sustainability has:
- Provided monthly reports to the President and Vice President for Business and Finance
- Engaged in regular donor engagement and sustainability fundraising efforts
- Led campus efforts to establish a Climate Resilience Plan with the City of Decatur
- Engaged in the Campus Master Plan planning process to ensure the final plan included a high level of sustainability outcomes
- Developed partnerships across campus with equivalent management personnel to advance campus-wide sustainability initiatives
- Trained three Agnes Scott graduates to work in the Center as sustainability fellows and provided mentorship/management of 12 student internships
