*The Carol Grotnes Belk Library and Information Commons and associated parking deck have a rainwater detention retention system that captures water, and by way of weir, releases the water into the watershed to prevent flooding. *The university is also currently studying permeable concrete surfaces and currently has 3 permeable concrete parking spaces under study. *The Holmes Convocation Center has a filtered storm water catchment system. One reservoir is 2400 gallons and another is 900 gallons. *The university has future plans to install a storm water filtration system on Stadium Drive lot, a 400 space parking lot.

*The green roof is a project of the Appalachian State Physical Plant in conjunction with Pepco Energy Services and is designed specifically to conserve energy, as well as show students the benefits of vegetative roofs on campus. It is located on Kerr Scott Building. Link to map: http://maps.appstate.edu/campus-map/index.php?marker=9 *Appalachian has 3 construction projects underway with green roofs included in their design.

The university is also currently studying permeable concrete surfaces and currently has 3 permeable concrete parking spaces under study. There has been a big push to use permeable-wearing services, but so far, the experimental plots have not proven to be successful due to snow removal, freeze/thaw conditions, use of slag, and heavy axial loadings.

On Rivers Street under the overhead walkway as part of the Kraut Creek Restoration is a newly built retention pond. Designed to hold (a certain amount of water for a certain amount of time).
