The Office of Sustainability has a presentation table at Open House that first-year students attend. We disseminate information about campus sustainability that includes academic offerings and campus operations.

Beginning in Summer 2011, all Resident Advisors and Resident Directors take a sustainability training and quiz. A staff member from the Office of Sustainability holds an informative training session for the new student orientation leaders.

The second floor of Frank Hall, a recently renovated LEED Gold certified residence hall, houses the Living Green Residential Learning Community. This community engages in sustainability-based activities during new student orientation and throughout the year. They engage in programming that focuses around a community-agreed upon theme for the year and participate in activities related to that theme. All first-year students are eligible to apply.

Admissions hosts groups of new and prospective students and parents on campus tours frequently all throughout the year. These tours are led by a group of student leaders called Appalachian Ambassadors. Each year, a staff member from the Office of Sustainability gives a presentation to this group of esteemed students educating them about campus sustainability for the purposes of the tour.
