*Residential housing is the strongest representation of the types of appliances the university purchases. Within the residence halls, ALL of the washing machines are Energy Star-rated with most of our micro-fridge units being Energy Star-rated. There is currently university policy that all new appliances shall be Energy Star-rated.
*Appalachian State University and the State of North Carolina have many sustainable purchasing policies. Included categories are: paper, appliances cleaning products, fertilizers, pesticides, biodiesel, ethanol, local preference, packaging material, toner, hazardous chemicals, HVAC equipment, recycled content, and food.
*Appalachian State University purchases 30% recycled content for all central warehouse purchasing.

*All of Appalachian's paper purchases through central purchasing are Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified.
