ASU participates in advocacy in a variety of ways.
- ASU advocated and supported the development and implementation of a three city bike share program that will come to Tempe and ASU's Tempe campus this Fall. http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/tempe/2016/07/12/bike-share-program-coming-tempe-creating-3-city-program/86868722/
- ASU is developing a water reclamation project and is working with the City of Tempe to alter their rate structures to include a rate for reclaimed water.

ASU advocated and strongly supported the development of the Desert Discovery Center in Scottsdale. Additionally, ASU has taken public positions on the regional light rail expansion plans. ASU supported expansion to Gilbert and Mesa.
Another example is that ASU has held conversations with local and regional policymakers about barriers and other challenges related to renewable energy in an effort to reduce barriers and increase implementation.

ASU has taken positions and actions on a variety of national issues.
1. ASU helped establish the University Innovation Alliance, a partnership between 11 universities to increase collaboration and innovation in higher education. These institutions represent higher-than-peer-average percentages of the diverse students whose outcomes higher education urgently needs to improve. The schools seek to identify new solutions, scale proven innovations, and improve communication and diffusion of results. The ultimate goal is to increase graduation rates among low-income students. ASU worked closely with the country of Albania to develop a "green" solution to their education infrastructure. ASU representatives worked closely with Albania government officials to conduct the study and move ideas forward in the country. Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability Director, Gary Dirks, presented the report recommendations with the Prime Minister of Albania to an audience of international reporters and donors to advocate for international support to implement the report’s recommendations (which included standards for green retrofits of Albanian schools nationwide).
Going to school in Albania means dealing with frequent power outages; the electricity grid is only 60 percent reliable, and schools have limited access to even that. Albania wants to make its schools safe, stable and energy efficient, and the nation turned to ASU’s sustainability experts for help.
The result: a step-by-step plan to transform the schools and boost that nation’s economy.
