A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
Sustainability is included in the New Employee Orientation (NEO) presentation to newly hired benefits-eligible faculty and staff. Information about Arizona State University’s mission and goals is presented via printed materials, a PowerPoint presentation, video, and the web.
- The orientation preshow and main presentation display information on how employees can get active in our sustainability culture. Examples include references the Green Devil network, Seeds of Sustainability training, and the Sustainable Office certification program.
- The main presentation provides information on recycling and landfill practices.
- The "Welcome to ASU" brochure given during orientation highlights the Green Devil network, asu.edu/hr/new-employee/NEO-tri-fold-web.pdf.
Additionally, at NEO the following are reviewed and discussed:
ASU's Charter:
"ASU is a comprehensive public research university, measured not by whom we exclude, but rather by whom we include and how they succeed; advancing research and discovery of public value; and assuming fundamental responsibility for the economic, social, cultural and overall health of the communities it serves."
ASU's Goals, which include:
"Enhance our local impact and social embeddedness:
Co-develop solutions to the critical social, technical, cultural and environmental issues facing 21st-century Arizona, ensuring sustainability and resilience."
