A brief description of the institution’s carbon mitigation projects:
Peer-reviewed Carbon Offset Project: Urban Forestry
ASU worked with the cities of Phoenix and Tempe to plant over 662 trees with over 281 volunteers and over 463 volunteer hours. The trees planted are part of Community Offset Bundles or third-party verified carbon offsets combined with local tree plantings. The trees planted to-date will sequester over 2250 tons of carbon, support the ASU Urban Climate Research Center’s urban heat island research, and reduce the need to purchase offsets in the future. This project is supported by ASU's Carbon Fund and private donations. As of July 2019, over 662 trees have been planted in over 26 sites across the Phoenix Metro Area. This effort not only reduces ASU’s carbon emissions but also supports the research of the ASU Urban Climate Research Center.

Innovative offset project: Carbon Sink at ASU West
The Carbon Sink at ASU West consists of 1,000 native trees planted in March 2020 with support from Northern Arizona University. The project expands native landscapes, sequesters carbon, and provides a living laboratory at ASU’s West campus.
