The Safety Advancement Program is a self-assessment designed to help institutions assess and address health and safety performance. The assessment covers key elements of a safety management system from general requirements to legal considerations to monitoring. It was founded on the principles of CSHEMA's Complete Safety Award and integrates the ISO 14001, UHSAS 18001, and CWA 15973 standards.

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :
An ASU injury review committee consisting of Employee Health, Risk Management, and Human Resources meet quarterly to review all incidents and determine if they are recordable. All incidents resulting in an injury to an ASU employee, faculty, student, or visitor, or damage to ASU property in excess of $500 must be reported to EH&S within 24 hours. Each department manager will ensure that each incident is reported to EH&S. The results of any investigation and status of corrective action associated with the incident must be forwarded to EH&S for review and potential follow up.
