A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
Auburn University forms a key part of the large town of Auburn, Alabama, and is geographically situated on the fall line between the Appalachian Plateau and the Coastal Plain. The main campus consists of over 2000 acres, contains over 450 buildings, and includes a veterinary school and working farm facilities. This core campus forms the basis for STARS reporting both because it is the hub of most university activity and due to the nature of the provision of utility and transportation services to this central area allowing for detailed reporting.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school Yes Yes
Medical school No No
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) Yes Yes
Museum Yes Yes
Satellite campus Yes No
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres Yes Yes
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres Yes No
Hospital No No

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
The Auburn University campus in Montgomery, Alabama, and the Experiment Stations & Extension Offices operate rather autonomously from the primary campus in Auburn, with separate systems and personnel for virtually every function. In addition, main campus resources for sustainability remain relatively limited, and the capacity to expand sustainability efforts and reporting beyond the primary campus boundaries does not currently exist. Furthermore, primary sustainability reporting (i.e. -- greenhouse gas inventory, bicycle-friendly designation, tree campus) focuses exclusively on the main campus, so excluding satellite locations from STARS allows us to remain consistent with our current reporting protocol.
