The Plate Project:
The Plate Project began in spring of 2017 by collecting stories revolving around food insecurity from students, faculty and staff across campus. The second phase of the project was carried out during the 2017 fall semester. This phase involved a sociology class doing a study on food insecurity at BW in order to provide statistics related to the topic. The results show that food insecurity has affected 27 percent of BW students. This study was repeated in the SP21 semester by the same faculty member to determine the effects of COVID-19 on student food insecurity on campus. The results of the previous study were largely replicated and additional granular detail was added such as the likelihood of minority students and commuter students to be more vulnerable to food insecurity on campus.
