Mayors Carbon Challenge: Barnard Has committed to a 50% reduction in
carbon intensity by 2025 from 2005 levels.
Barnard College Climate Action Vision: "Barnard achieves emissions reductions across all three scopes, in line with or exceeding the ambitious New York state and city standards."
The Climate Action Vision is updated each year with an annual report. In 2020-2021 the following updates were made:
-80% diversion by 2030, in line with NYC zero waste goals.
-Replace, reduce, or offset air travel to net zero by 2030.
-100% grounds are maintained with integrated/ organic care that supports biodiversity, with clear limits on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides by 2025.

In December 2019, Barnard published a comprehensive Climate Action Vision that emphasizes the role of women, people of color, and low income communities in forging a new paradigm of climate leadership. Our main areas of focus are Academics, Finance and Governance, and Campus Culture and Operations. The document provides a guiding vision for each area of focus, with a clear outline of progress to date and next steps.
