Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Bates Bike Library
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Bates bike share program is housed within our library, so that students and staff may check out a bike the way one would check out a book. We've found that this has streamlined the bike share program on both sides of the equation - users have greater access to our shared bikes, with a higher and easier turnover, and our staff are less taxed since the bikes are embedded in an existing system. Since instituting this program, we have increased our ridership 530%. We have also instituted publicly accessible outdoor bike repair stations and have open shop hours for bike repair training.
