Binghamton is part of a consortium, New York Campuses Aggregated Renewable Energy Solution, or NYCARES, to initiate a large renewable energy procurement process for multiple public and private colleges and universities. Binghamton is one of the five steering committee members to review technical data and member inputs to guide decision making processes. The goal is to procure long term power supply from new renewable energy projects while managing price risk of wholesale electric price.

Binghamton University is an active member of SUNY Sustainability Coalition which serves as a platform for idea exchange on best practices and collaboration. Binghamton is recognized as a leader in energy efficiency programs and greenhouse gas inventory reporting.

A brief description of the peer review activities:
in Fall of 2017, a Sustainable Communities masters degree course PAFF516 required students to review AASHE STARS reports from BU and other SUNY campuses to benchmark our performance. Students were assigned specific STARS categories to perform SWAT analysis on BU's sustainability efforts. A final report was used to develop BU's Sustainability Plan.
