A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
Safe Streets, a neighborhood organization in the North of Main neighborhood of Binghamton, and the university have engaged in a partnership since 2015 called the Neighborhood Heritage and Sustainability Project. Through this project, we have created and help run a community center that provides numerous services to the local residents. We do community breakfasts every weekend, aimed at feeding people and building community / collaboration. We have hosted sessions around jobs, education, and art/science for kids. During the warmer weather our events go outside to the nearby Walnut Street Park. Other partners in the project include the Broome County Urban League and the Horace Mann Middle School. Our ongoing activities are posted on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NorthofMain/.
