A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
The sustainability research inventory was conducted primarily through a survey sent to employees engaged in research during the Fiscal Year 2021, collecting published research potentially related to sustainability, as defined by AASHE with supporting documentation from the Earth Charter and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The survey results were then reviewed by the BU Sustainability data analysis interns and validated for accuracy, according to the aforementioned sustainability guidelines. The information reported represents data on funded research projects from FY2021.

We reported 200 for the "number of faculty departments", meaning there're 200 departments with at least one faculty. Overall, the number of departments is different from the number of academic departments, there are also non-academic departments. To get to 109 - if an employee has a "research" flag from the HR SAP file, then they're regarded as a "research employee" and we counted the number of Master Cost Center of those who have such a flag.
