A brief description of the campaign(s):
1. Based around the college's Building Dashboard energy consumption tracking program, the Energy Savings Dorm Competition is a month long competition normally held annually in October, with an additional 3 week competition in the spring. The competition offers prizes for the residence halls that reduce their energy consumption the most, in comparison to a base period. 2. Bowdoin participates in the national "Recyclemainia" competition. The competition is an opportunity to promote recycling and waste reduction on campus. There are several categories of competition and in 2012, Bowdoin placed first among NESCAC schools in per capita recycling rate, and placed first nationally in the film plastics recycling category.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
During the Fall 2011 Energy Savings Dorm Competition, Bowdoin College Dorms reduced their energy consumption by 25,123 Kilowatt/Hours. The Recyclemania competition is based on per captia pounds of recycled material, where data from this 4 week long competition can be compared with the year round data we keep on weight of recycled material in order to judge the effectiveness of this competition.
