A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Bowdoin’s “Feed a Farmer on Fridays in February”
Since 2009, Bowdoin has been holding winter lunches in our dining halls during February and March bringing together our community of local farmers, dining service staff, our organic garden manager, and interested students, faculty and staff. At these lunches we treat our guests to delicious food and wide-ranging discussions including the results of the previous growing season, expectations for the upcoming one, seeds, soil, weather, diseases, distribution and delivery issues, and prices. The relaxed atmosphere emphasizes conversations and community and often encourages interesting connections that strengthen the overall local foods ecosystem.
