A brief description of the program(s), (s), including availability, participation levels, and specifics about discounts or subsidies offered (including pre-tax options):
1. Bowdoin partially funds a local bus - the "Brunswick Explorer" which stops at Bowdoin every hour to transport students to and from nearby shopping centers, hospitals and transit stations for a flat rate of $1. Over 80% of students are aware of the Brunswick explorer, though participation varies daily and by season. 2. Bowdoin offers a free campus shuttle available to all students at any time of day, with increased capacity on weekend evenings and nights. Nearly 100% of students are aware of the "Safe Ride" Service and almost as many use it regularly. 3. Bowdoin pays the local taxi company (Brunswick Taxi) to shuttle students for free on weekends within 1 mile of campus. This service is less utilized than the "Bowdoin Safe Ride" service (around 50% of students have used this service since it began a year ago). 4. Bowdoin offers reduced-fare shuttles to and from Portland on the weekends and to the Portland airport before and after school breaks. These services are popular amongst those students who need them (about 35% of the student body).

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Bowdoin advocates for students to use the "Downeaster" train service which opened in Brunswick in the Fall of 2012. The station is less than 1/2 mile walk from campus, with service to Portland and Boston.
