A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
Bowdoin's McKeen Center for the Common Good has partnered with over 100 organizations, a majority of which are based in Maine and address at least one of the economic, social, or environmental aspects of sustainability. One example is the McKeen Center's work with Habitat for Humanity on winterizing low-income households in Maine. Bowdoin College also partners with the non-profit Friends of Merrymeeting Bay to support their annual lecture series. Each summer seven Community Matters in Maine Psi Upsilon and Logan Fellowships are awarded to students for 10-week internships to work with Maine non-profit organizations and governmental agencies. Students receive a summer stipend from the college. Last year students worked with the towns of Brunswick and Topsham, several local land trusts, the Maine League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Council of Maine, and Cultivating Community, a local non-profit.
