A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):
All faculty teaching in the 18-19 academic year were surveyed regarding sustainability as part of their course work and research. The survey garnered an 89% response rate. Utilizing the data from the 180 faculty members that answered the question "If you are currently or recently have been working on research, how would you qualify it in relation to sustainability?" Response choices were: "sustainability focused", "sustainability related", "not sustainability related", "not actively doing research". For the 53 faculty members that did not either take the survey or skipped that question, we put them down as "not sustainability related". Sustainability focused research refers to research where the primary and explicit focus of the research is on sustainability and/or on understanding or solving one or more major sustainability challenges. Sustainability related research primarily focuses on a topic other than sustainability, but incorporates a component of sustainability or a sustainability challenge as part of the research. Research not related to sustainability meets neither of the requirements above.
