In March 2018, Bowdoin instituted an Office of Inclusion and Diversity (OID), led by a senior vice president who reports to the president and sits on the senior officer cabinet. The Advisory Committee for a Diverse Community advises offices in charge of supporting the diverse identity groups that constitute our campus community, on matters pertaining to the academic and social experience of students, faculty, and staff. The Committee advises primarily on issues related to gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and social or geographical origin. These offices include the Center for Multicultural Life, staffed by a director and student officers, the Sexuality, Women and Gender (SWAG) Center also staffed by a director and student officers. These two centers are also supported by the Associate Dean of Students for Diversity and Inclusion. The college also has an Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, which has a director and advisors for students of different religions. These offices also support student-run clubs relating to these issues, such as the African American Society, and the fEMPOWER groups.

Student: Orientation, Residential Life, Student Life, Athletic Leaders, Inter-racial group dialogue (IGD).
Staff: Workshops, professional development, implicit bias, off-site training, IGD. Faculty: Implicit bias, search committees, faculty mentoring IGD.
In 2016 HR sponsored diversity training for employees. This was led by Rosa Lee Hunter, principal of RLH Consulting. A total of 417 employees attended this training:
January 2016 – required training for F&A staff: 297 attended. Two full-day sessions for manages/supervisors and seven half-day sessions for staff
March 2016 - open to staff across the College: 101 attended. Six half-day sessions
December 2016 – open to staff across the College: 19 attended. Two half-day sessions
In January 2016, Pat Romney of Romney and Associates met with the Department Heads of Student Affairs, to talk about diversity in hiring and in staff development as it relates to students. HR staff participated in the day of training with Pat Romney. In September, 2016, Pat Romney held another session for primarily faculty members who are/were involved in searches this academic year or for faculty participating as members of the diversity hiring team.

the Non-Violent Communication work of Marshall Rosenberg.
