Part 1. Greenhouse gas emissions inventory
Yes
A copy of the most recent GHG emissions inventory:
A brief description of the methodology and/or tool used to complete the GHG emissions inventory:
Brock follows the Ontario Regulation 390/18 methodology made under the Environmental Protection Act – Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Quantification, Reporting and Verification for all Scope 1 GHG emissions.
To calculate Scope 2 GHG emissions for 2022, The Government of Canada Website was referenced to determine the average annual emission factor (AEF). The AEF was calculated by using the Electricity Consumption intensity Value (converted to Tons) for Ontario. To calculate Scope 2 GHG emissions for 2013, the National Inventory Report 1990-2017: Greenhouse Gas Sources and Sinks in Canada, was referenced to determine the AEF for Ontario for 2013.

Has the GHG emissions inventory been validated internally by personnel who are independent of the GHG accounting and reporting process and/or verified by an independent, external third party?:
Yes
A brief description of the GHG inventory verification process:
Brock’s 2022 GHG inventory for direct emissions was verified by Dillon Consulting. The verification was conducted in accordance with the requirements set out in O.Reg.390/18, which include specific clauses of ISO 14064-3 and 14065, and Brock received a modified positive verification statement. As part of the verification, Dillon Consulting reviewed the numbers used for generated electricity. Purchased electricity (the only source of scope 2 emissions at Brock) was not reviewed but are obtained via revenue grade meters managed by the Local Distribution Company.

A brief description of the methodology(ies) the institution used to complete its air emissions inventory:
Brock University used the 2022 Natural Gas Combustion Emissions Calculator (the Calculator) to facilitate the calculation of air emissions from natural gas combustion to report to the 2022 National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI).
The Calculator is an updated version of the 2021 Calculator, developed by the Canadian Energy Partnership for Environmental Innovation (CEPEI). The Calculator presents one specific basis of estimation for calculating emissions from the combustion of natural gas (I.e. emission factors).

Additional documentation to support the submission:
Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Note: The Natural Gas Emissions Calculator for 2022 produced values for Carbon Monoxide, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Formaldehyde, and propane. Formaldehyde is designated as a Hazardous air pollutant (HAP) by the United Stated Environmental Protection Agency (see link below), therefore, the value for HAPs in Part 2. reflects the amount of Formaldehyde emitted for the 2022 year. The calculator also did not provide a figure for weight of Nitrous Oxides. This number was calculated utilizing data for N2O emissions from Facilities Management at Brock University and is expressed as a CO2 equivalency.
