Bioswale Maintenace
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Bucknell has a number of bioswales to control stormwater runoff. As with all bioswales, the plantings require routine mainenance to ensure proper function. In our case, that maintenance plan includes periodic controlled burns to eliminate invasive species. This event was held for the first time in 2018. That controlled burn allowed faculty/students to monitor the wildlife and plantings both before, during and after the event. This data is being used educate students on the potential impacts or benefits of larger scale forest fires.
