A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Ambassadors of Change is a 5 day pre-orientation program for incoming students which focuses on service, community engagement, and active citizenship. Each day focuses on a different social justice topic with relevant and meaningful education, service and reflection. Each year, there is a day that focuses on food insecurity/justice and another that focuses on environmental issues. In 2020, Orientation worked with campus partners to hand out reusable water bottles and canvas tote bags.
The Efroymson Diversity Center hosts a Pre-Orientation program called Dawg Days for new students. This program strives to build a supportive network of students from diverse backgrounds and identities including students of color and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Peer mentors and university staff facilitate empowering social and educational activities while exposing students to campus and community resources to help them build relationships and navigate their journeys at Butler. https://www.butler.edu/orientation/pre-orientation-programs
