Multiple units at CI have responsibility for promoting diversity and equity on campus, these include:
President’s Commission on Human Relations, Diversity and Equity
Mission:
To support the University’s mission through promoting a campus climate that embraces all forms of multiculturalism and diversity inclusion to ensure a working, living and learning environment that is free of all forms of discrimination. The campus climate should move beyond the passivity of tolerance to the activity of welcoming.

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
CI students receive multiple opportunities to gain cultural competence through training, education and campus activities including:
• All incoming students participate in sessions on “Campus Core Values” (one of which is multicultural understanding) and “Multicultural Experience “ as part of orientation.
• The required general education curriculum includes three units of multicultural coursework prior to graduation.
• All enrolled CI students are required to complete an interactive online training program about issues of sexual harassment, discrimination and harassment.
• Diversity training, workshops and events offered through Intercultural Services.
• Diversity training for students participating in the first and transfer year experience programs through the ISLAS Academy.
CI staff and faculty receive multiple opportunities to gain cultural competence through training and activities including:
• required to complete an interactive online training program about issues of sexual harassment, discrimination and harassment.
• Day-long Diversity Forum
• SAFE on Campus training to reduce homophobia and heterosexism at CI.
• Creating Classroom Community: Tips and Techniques for Increased Student Success
• Connecting Student Lives to Curriculum Through 'Testimonio Pedagogy’
