A brief description of the formal sustainability course designation program:
Sustainability Courses
Courses marked with a green leaf symbol are a part of CSU, Chico's devotion to sustainability practices and education. The "green leaf" indicates sustainability-focused or sustainability-inclusive courses that emphasize environmentally responsible awareness and learning.
A list of student learning outcomes were developed by an interdisciplinary faculty learning community identifying key issues of sustainability. These were used to evaluate courses requesting a "green leaf" course designation in the campus catalog. The process included the submission of a course syllabus and detailed description of how the instruction substantially addressed a minimum of 3 of the learning outcomes. Evaluation of the submissions is conducted by the Curriculum subcommittee of the Campus Sustainability Committee. (note: Faculty and Department Chairs initiate the process of designating a course as a "Green Leaf" course; as a result, not all courses that are sustainability-focused or inclusive have been given the Green Leaf symbol.)
