A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Our current green infrastructure includes 4 vegetated swales (all planted with native and/or drought tolerant plants), 3 retention basins, 2 sediment filters, approximately 4,400 sq. ft. of porous pavement, approximately 2,700 trees, approximately 6,000 linear feet of stream setback, and 230 storm drain inlets stenciled with “drains to creek”. In addition to the 4 vegetated swales, an additional 6 areas were converted from grass or bare dirt to xeriscape with point-source drip irrigation, sub-surface irrigation, or MP-Rotator high efficiency sprinklers, in the last 5 years.
All projects that create and/or replace more than 2,500 sq. ft. of impervious surfaces implement site design measures into the project plan. The site design measures usually include tree planting and preservation, vegetative buffer, porous pavement, and vegetated swales.
Any project that disturbs more than one (1) acre of soil is required to have a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
Inspections on hotspot locations and for implementation of best management practices are completed quarterly. This includes areas such as vehicle cleaning (all vehicle and equipment cleaning is drains to sumps hooked up to the sanitary sewer), maintenance, and fueling, storage of equipment, materials and solid and hazardous waste, spills and leaks, building and grounds maintenance, food service operations, as loading docks.

The University plan and policies follow all requirements for non-traditional small MS4 permittees as outlined in the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems administered by California Water Resources Control Board.
