A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
--The University Diversity Council (UDC), led by the Chief Diversity Officer and made up of staff, faculty, and students, was established in fall 2014. In aligning our mission and goals with Chico State's strategic priorities, the University and UDC are committed to fostering dynamic, high-quality and inclusive learning environments both within and outside of the classroom.
--The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is built on the University's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in our campus community and beyond. Discrimination and inequities in our society have unjustly impacted communities of color and people of varied ethnicities, origins, sexualities, gender identities, religions, ability, body size, and many other intersectional identities. Because of this, historically underserved populations have not had equal access or opportunity for educational success. Chico State has intentionally made equity, diversity, and inclusion the University’s top Strategic Plan priority in order to challenge and change that status quo on our campus and in society.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence, anti-oppression, anti-racism, and/or social inclusion trainings and activities:
--Diversity Requirements for General Education: GE Students must complete a minimum of two courses that focus primarily on cultural diversity. At least one course must be in U.S. Diversity and at least one in Global Cultures.

--The Book In Common: A shared, community read, designed to promote discussion and understanding of important issues facing the broader community. About a dozen events and discussions are held throughout each academic year related to the Book In Common. The 2021-22 Book in Common is "There, There" by Tommy Orange. Past Books in Common are "How to Be An Anti Racist" by Ibram X. Kendi (2020-21), and "In Search of the Canary Tree" by Lauren Oakes (2019-2020).

--The Conversations on Diversity and Inclusion (CODI) series focuses on the complexities of group and individual identities and how they influence one another. These events are co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Department of Multicultural and Gender Studies.

--Multicultural Graduation Celebrations: In addition to the University Commencement Ceremonies for each Academic Department(s), students are also invited to participate in the Multicultural Graduation Celebrations.

--Multicultural Welcome Reception: Each summer, the OEDI welcomes all students with multicultural reception.

--Anti-Racism Series: The School of Education at Chico State is hosting this virtual series to join with prominent scholars in discussions about race and racism in U.S. society, K-12 schooling, and higher education. Speakers will share on the ground practices that leverage the possibilities for racial and social justice, both inside and outside of classrooms.
