Chico State's main campus is 119 acres located in the heart of Chico, CA. The university was established in 1887 - it's the second oldest of the 23 California State Universities - as the Chico Normal School on land that was donated to the State of California by Chico's founder, John Bidwell. Big Chico Creek, heading West from the Sierra Nevada foothills to the Sacramento River, runs through campus.
