Has the institution engaged in a structured assessment process during the previous three years to improve diversity, equity and inclusion on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:
CSU Basic Needs Initiative:
In 2019, the California State University (CSU) completed Phase 3 of a study of student service access and basic needs. Findings from survey, interview, and focus group data show an urgent need to provide resources serving students' basic needs and facilitate linkages across these resources. Visibility and normalization of programs and services are vital to supporting the health and success of students. Marginalized students such as Black and African American students who were previously identified in the Phase 2 of the CSU Study of Basic Needs were again identified in this study as in need of targeted institutional approaches for outreach and support. These findings point to a continued need for sustaining resources directed toward supporting students in meeting basic needs and sharing progress made system-wide.

Survey data for this report were drawn from the CSU Study on Basic Needs Phase 2 data set. The Phase 2 survey was distributed to a census student sample via email across all 23 CSU campuses an average of 5.76% participation across each campus for the survey (n=24,324) (see Appendix A for campus level response rates). A total of 37,351 students began the survey and 27,805 completed the survey.

National Survey of Student Engagement(NSSE):
CSUF is a participating institution in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), which collects comprehensive information on effective programs and activities that higher education institutions provide to promote student learning and personal development, and how their students participate in these practices.

Yes

Does the assessment process address student outcomes related to diversity, equity and success?:
Yes

Does the assessment process address employee outcomes related to diversity and equity?:

A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:
CSU Basic Needs Initiative:
These findings by the CSU point to a continued need for sustaining resources directed toward supporting students in meeting basic needs and sharing progress made system-wide. Furthermore, there is need for increasing student supports, including raising awareness of services and developing systematic linkages to on- and off-campus resources to help meet their basic needs, especially for student groups who are disproportionately experiencing the highest levels of basic needs insecurity.

Food Pantry:
In Fall 2021, CSUF created a new and permanent program to the campus that serves to distribute foods and support students facing food insecurity. The Pantry’s inventory rotates between various food items; typically offering a variety of non-perishable foods, canned goods, and fresh produce. Along with The Pantry’s services, the program works with Tuffy’s Basic Needs to provide additional resources for support around other various areas of basic needs insecurity and related issues. https://asi.fullerton.edu/services

Tuffy's Basic Needs Services:
Tuffy’s Basic Needs Services Center identifies and serves students who are experiencing an unforeseen hardship, emergency, crisis, or catastrophic life event. The resources offered by this comprehensive endeavor are designed to promote wellness and enable students to complete their education at California State University, Fullerton. Established in 2017, this is a campus-wide initiative that is coordinated by the CSUF Dean of Students Office and supports The California State University Basic Needs Initiative. Tuffy's Basic Needs Services Center, which holds many of the donated products, is located in McCarthy Hall 143. http://www.fullerton.edu/deanofstudents/basic_needs/
