A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
CSULB has a long-term partnership with Long Beach Forward, formerly known as Building Healthy Communities – Long Beach. Serving as "the glue that brings people, community organizations, and decision makers together,” LB Forward’s mission is to create a healthy Long Beach for low-income communities of color by building community knowledge, leadership and power.

During the 2019-2020 school year, more than 40 CSULB students worked with LB Forward on their 2020 U.S. Census "We Count LB" effort to promote census participation among Los Angeles County’s diverse, hard-to-count communities. Students also contributed to LB Forward’s "Community Organizing for Health Equity" initiative, which aims to advance statewide policy, change the narrative, and transform 14 of California’s communities devastated by health inequities into places where all people, neighborhoods and the environment can thrive.

A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability (2nd partnership):
Established in 2018, the Latino Economic Summit is an annual event that brings together academic professionals, government officials, city departments, community-based organizations, and neighborhood leaders to discuss and address important issues affecting the Latinx community in Long Beach.

To help facilitate this discussion, various socioeconomic statistics on Latinos in Long Beach are presented through the annual Long Beach Latino Economic Report. The report highlights disparities in four main policy areas affecting Long Beach's Latinx community: economic inclusion, education gaps, health disparities, and immigrant integration.

Both the annual summit and report are made possible through a collaborative effort among CSULB’s Department of Economics, CSULB’s Center for Community Engagement, the Long Beach Economic Development Department, and Hispanic-Latino human and social service nonprofit Centro CHA.
