Does the institution have other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting?:
Yes

A brief description of other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting:
In 2019, CSULB unveiled the Campus Wheel Path project which was designed to provide students with a safe, easy-to-use wayfinding system throughout campus and to encourage sustainable methods of transportation. The project included the installation of 24”x36” on-ground decals which clearly mark the paths for bikes, scooters, and skateboards through the main quad, northern sections of campus and a complete loop that connects points on campus with the City of Long Beach bike lanes located on the major boulevards and streets that surround the campus (Bellflower Boulevard, Atherton Street, Palo Verde Avenue, and State University Drive).

CSULB also partners with Long Beach Transit to offer students and employees discounted transit passes for unlimited rides on all Long Beach Transit buses. Students and employees have the option of purchasing a 150-day transit pass for $100, which is a 50% discount for students and nearly 70% discount for employees. Long Beach Transit operates in 13 cities and has multiple routes with on-campus stops.

For longer-distance commutes, CSULB has partnered with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to provide students and employees with a discounted transit option when traveling to campus from the greater Los Angeles area. The LA Metro Pass provides CSULB students and employees with unlimited rides on all LA Metro buses and light rail lines (Red, Orange, Blue, Expo, etc.) for a highly-discounted price (based on ridership).

In addition, the campus has a Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program, Rideshare Rewards Program, and vanpool program for employees. The GRH program is funded by LA Metro and provides employees who bike, bus, walk, carpool or vanpool to work with up to two rides home per year in the event of an emergency. The campus is considering extending this program to students. The Rideshare Rewards Program is a monthly prize drawing for employees who commute via sustainable modes. Participants track their commutes on an online platform and each month four individuals are randomly selected to win $50 in Beach Bucks credit (funds can be used at food and retail operations on campus). The vanpool program offers employees up to a $500 rental subsidy (funded by LA Metro), a $100 fuel subsidy, complimentary parking privileges, and a reserved parking space.

CSULB also operates on- and off-campus shuttles that run on reclaimed compressed natural gas (CNG). The Beachside Shuttle provides rides to students who reside in the off-campus university residence (Beachside Housing). On-campus shuttles are provided through the East Loop, West Loop, and All Campus Tripper shuttles, which operate every 15 minutes. Real-time GPS tracking can be accessed via the CSULB Mobile App.
