A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:
The Environmental Engineering degree is designed to prepare graduates for a variety of careers within the environmental engineering field. The program builds upon a strong foundation of biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering science to prepare environmental engineers with a broad portfolio of expertise in water quality and management, pollution mitigation control, air quality control, and renewable energy sources, as well as knowledge of environmental policies and regulations. The program includes fundamental courses and laboratories in environmental engineering, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology. Students will be able to explore specialized areas within environmental engineering by selecting elective courses during their senior year.

Environmental Science and Policy offers a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree. The requirements for each are slightly different but both degrees are inherently interdisciplinary and include coursework and content from the fields of anthropology, biology, chemistry, earth science, ecology, economics, geography, geology, and political science. Students who earn the Environmental Science and Policy B.S. degree develop:
A broad understanding of Earth systems; the ability to apply economic principles to analyze environmental problems; the ability to integrate legal principles with environmental science and policy; the ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to solve environmental problems; the ability to apply natural and social sciences to solve an environmental problem.

CSULB offers a 20-unit interdisciplinary minor in Environmental Science and Policy that offers students insight into theoretical and applicable concepts of sustainability, environmental economic principles, legal principles in environmental law, and applications of natural and social sciences to solve environmental issues. The program allows students to take classes in a wide range of disciplines such as design, engineering, geography, marketing, and hospitality management. Students are required to complete 9 units (three courses) that are specifically listed as composing the program's "sustainability coursework."
