CSULB adopted the Immediate/Inclusive Access program from the CSU Chancellor's Office Affordable Learning Solutions and rebranded/launched it as the Day 1 Digital Access (D1DA) program in Fall 2019. The D1DA program is a digital-first model delivering digital textbook savings to students. The reduction in demand for printed textbooks along with the reduction of shipping results in sustainability benefits. Since Fall 2019, there have been over 175,000 participation units from students opting for the digital textbook. In Spring 2023, around 33% of classes with a required textbook enrolled in the D1DA program. Even though only at 33%, the ratio for student purchasing behavior at CSULB was 72.7% digital vs. 27.3% print.

A brief description of the incentives to encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks:
Incentives are made available by funding through the CSU Chancellor's Office and AB 798.
The Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) team offers $15 promotional incentives for faculty who participate in "Introduction to AL$" trainings, whether it be on a 1-on-1 basis or through departmental/campus AL$ presentations. The AL$ team also offers a $500 stipend to any faculty who will convert their course from using existing high cost course materials to existing available open educational resources (OER) or hybrid-OER.
