A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The Office of Student Affairs employs a student-facing EDI Specialist. The role supports education and awareness in the university around EDI related matters, specifically related to CapU students, including Student engagement of EDI issues, events, initiatives. Gender diversity training (employees). Workshop for students. New online course in development for Student & employee orientation. The Student Rights and Responsibilities Advisor, which intersects with EDI related concerns, also supports students who have EDI-related concerns/complaints about employees or other students, by providing them with guidance about the relevant policies and processes (Student Code of Conduct Policy and the Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment Policy) and with options to address their complaint, formally and/or informally. The role also offers “reactive education” upon request about community care (which includes elements of EDI), and what it means to be a part of a diverse learning community.
CapU also has a Conflict Resolution Advisor, who can offer mediation, conflict resolution, and facilitated dialogue to address concerns between university community members (students, staff or faculty). This role includes EDI-related matters or issues under the Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment Policy. The conflict resolution advisor can also occasionally offer education around conflict resolution, communication strategies, working across differences etc.
CapU currently does not have an active campus-wide EDI committee.
CapU, in partnership with the Capilano Students’ Union, the Capilano Faculty Association and MoveUP union, collaborates to host annual EDI educational and engagement events for all CapU community members including Black History Month, Asian History Month, and Women’s History Month.

The VP Equity and Sustainability is also a student elected position, responsible for working with and developing Equity and Sustainability programming within the student population. Shared tasks include engaging students in addressing EDI issues, events programming and campaigns, policy development, etc.T
