Carleton has established an Advisory Committee on Sustainability, which incorporates operational, teaching and research outcomes. The mandate of the committee is as following:
• To provide strategic oversight on matters relating to environmental sustainability and to provide input and advice on sustainability direction, plans and reports.
• To review, and recommend for approval; strategies, policies, and action plans in support of the University’s environmental sustainability ambitions and commitments, and to review and recommend strategies, policies, plans, procedures, and programmes of other committees in connection with environmental sustainability, where appropriate.
• To assist in wider promotion to the university community towards sustainability, and to communicate and promote the Strategic Integrated Plan (SIP) direction of Strive for sustainability.
• To oversee the delivery of environmental sustainability strategy, policy, and action plans, monitoring and reviewing environmental sustainability performance.
• To draw together subcommittees /task and finish groups as and when needed to deliver environmental sustainability strategies, policies and action plans, and progress commitments and targets.
• To advocate for Sustainability and identify opportunities for partnership and collaboration, both within Carleton and with external stakeholders and organisations.
• To ensure and garner support towards the University’s environmental sustainability ambition and commitments by identifying actions and resource to improve environmental performance.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
Sustainable operations have a long history at Carleton University, although for many years it was known by other names. Presently, Energy and Sustainability Programs is the office that oversees the implementation of Carleton’s Sustainability Strategic Plan. The 5 full time employees are key members of the Facilities Management and Planning team overseeing the implementation and co-ordination of all sustainability efforts on campus.
