A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
Current: -Pittsburgh Climate Initiative's Higher Education Climate Consortium (HECC) working with local universities and a Student Conservation Association Intern, to improve our GHG Inventory data collection processes and share results. -Pittsburgh's Champions for Sustainability (C4S) Sustainability Coordinators bi-monthly meetings. Recent Past -Host committee for the 2011 AASHE Conference held in Pittsburgh. -SW PA Household Hazardous Waste Task Force, a partnership of non-profits, business, government and higher education working to keep household hazardous waste out of the waterways, landfills and back yards, by holding collection events and educating the community. We have collected 2M lbs since 2002. -Allegheny Food Waste Composting Coalition to develop food composting in the region. -Oakland Task Force Environment Committee -Promote local food, the Oakland Farmers Market. -Campaign to add more green space; community garden and trees. -Increase recycling rates in the Oakland community. -Reduce plastic bags:  Received a grant for reusable shopping bags in 2009 for all CMU, PITT & Carlow incoming freshman. -Promote energy efficient street lights for Oakland.
