The Faculty Experiences Study is based on a set of research questions developed by the Vice Provost for Faculty and is designed to understand:
the proportion of time faculty spend on teaching, research and service
how able faculty are to balance teaching, research, and service
how faculty perceive their individual teaching, research, and service are perceived by other faculty
satisfaction with university-, college-, and department-provided resources for their work
the level of support provided for typical teaching and research activities
the availability and quality of mentoring
submission rates for journal and conference papers, books, creative works, and grant proposals
perceptions of how faculty as a body is treated by the administration
perceptions of policies related to hiring and promotion
typical sources of stress
perceptions of how female, minority race, international, LGBTQ, and faculty with disabilities are treated
awareness of resources
reasons faculty may consider when thinking of leaving their jobs
whether faculty would choose CMU again
A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):
The Faculty Experiences Study, conducted by the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis for the Vice Provost for Faculty, focused on satisfaction, atmosphere, mentoring, climate for diversity, and work/life balance of faculty. The findings were reviewed by the Vice Provost, the Provost, and all Deans and Departments Heads. Results were made broadly available to all faculty across campus.

The 55.1 percent represents the response rate among the faculty group being studied - including tenure-track, teaching-track, research-track, and library-track. Staff were not included in this project.
