Annual Climate Dialogue

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
This is a one day event held each year that is open to all employees, staff, faculty and students that provides information about current views of sustainability on a campus level, a national level, and an international level. There is a speaker (or panel of speakers), a large group discussion followed by a series of small group discussions facilitated by students in the Sustainable Practices Program, a report out and a take action component to the event. The dialogue is initiated, designed and run by sustainability students and faculty each year. The most recent dialogue took place in February 2018 and focused on social justice impacts of climate change.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The dialogue opens up lines of communication between students who may have had no previous experience around sustainability, and were not engaged in discussions around the international impacts of sustainable living. This program also introduces incoming students to the community of sustainability practitioners on campus and empowers all participants to take action on a personal, local, regional or bigger level. The dialogues also provide us with information about what sustainability initiatives students, faculty and staff are most interested in supporting on campus.

Earth Week 2017 (this is an annual event)

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):
This campaign, which occurred from April 15th through April 21st 2017, included a wide variety of sustainability events designed to invite the participation of students, staff, and faculty such as a restoration project at North Creek, movie screening, tree planting, speakers, garbage sort, community celebration, hackathon, garden party and networking and job fair.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
This Earth Week celebration introduced students to a variety of concepts and principles that make up a sustainable way of living. Discussions were designed to invite critical thinking about environmental and sustainable issues. Tree and vegetable planting allowed students to see the benefits of localized home and community gardening. Social justice issues were tied to environmental concerns to reveal to students that the focus on sustainability is an interconnected picture of humans and the environment. This event provided a fun atmosphere where new-comers to the sustainability field could explore these concepts for the first time.
