PURPOSE
This committee meets to develop and implement strategies that further the college’s progress toward meeting established Ten Year Academic Plan goals and demonstrate the college’s commitment to its established values of collaboration, access, success, innovation, environmental sustainability, global awareness, responsiveness and creativity.
Specifically, the committee will work to further integrate sustainability research and practices into STEM education, position Cascadia as a national model for college best practices in campus sustainability, serve as an internal advisory committee for the new Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Sustainable Practices (BASSP) and the recently updated AAS-T degree in Environmental Technology and Sustainable Practices, engage students in real-world applications of sustainability theories and best management practices and create spaces and identify resources that allow for the development of undergraduate research opportunities.
The Cascadia College Sustainability Committee is also charged with working alongside UWB’s Sustainability Committee in order to ensure a campus wide vision of sustainability and a sharing of resources toward aligned goals. Included is the role of wetlands oversight, whereby the chair or designee will perform the traditional roles of the former Wetlands Oversight Committee.
