In the past, data pertaining to student parking permits issued and RTA passes issued was obtained. Non-motorized commuters was calculated by subtracting permits and passes from student total and using anecdotal surveying. Surveying is done every 3 years to determine mode split.

In the past data was collected pertaining to how many University staff have parking permits and how many have RTA passes. These numbers were subtracted from the total number of employees to calculate non-motorized commuters.
Every 3 years a benchmarking survey is issued to determine mode split.

99% of CWRU undergrad students live on or within easy walking/commuting distance of the campus and there is an increasing availability of local housing in or very near University Circle, where the university campus is located.
