Yes

A brief description of the incentive program(s):
The College provides funding for professional development, trainings provided by the institution, and other incentives for the development of sustainability-related courses and course content for academic staff in various disciplines. These incentives are not currently formalized, but are communicated about and open to all faculty at the College.

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
The College has provided the opportunity for faculty across the College to participate in sustainability-related course development programs. These incentives are still being formalized for scale across the College.

In January of 2024, the College provided funding for professional development in the form of the AASHE Pidemont/Ponderosa Model Curriculum Development Workshop, led by Peggy Barlett. A group of 4 faculty members from various departments, including Biology, Environment & Sustainability, Sociology, and Business & Economics, attended the workshop, and their dues were covered entirely by the College.


In May of 2023, the College provided experiences for faculty from the Communications, Biology, and Environment & Sustainability departments to experience the impacts of concentrated animal feeding operations on the State of North Carolina firsthand. The incentives provided funding and support for faculty to accompany students on a ten day trip to coastal North Carolina to view rivers, streams and waste from concentrated animal feeding operations, all while learning from members of the Waterkeepers Alliance about advocacy strategy and environmental injustice. These faculty were then able to develop a collaboratively-instructed, interdisciplinary course on Clean Water Advocacy for Spring 2024.
