GHGs are calculated using the SIMAP tool. Data is submitted from Champlain College to our consultant, who then enters data into the carbon calculator. Scope 3 includes Student Study Abroad Air Travel, Faculty-led travel courses, international service trips, student community, faculty/staff commuting, directly financed air travel, directly financed ground travel, T&D losses, paper and wastewater.

A brief description of the internal and/or external verification process:
Inventory conducted by Jeffrey Murphy as a private consultant. Jeffrey used to work for the company that previously conducted our inventory. Inventory was then reviewed by campus operation directors and confirmed accurate.

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives, including efforts made during the previous three years:
Champlain College has measured and analyzed our greenhouse gas emissions for over a decade. Each year's analysis helps inform planning for future renovations and programs related to curbing our carbon emissions. In Fall 2017, Champlain College signed onto the Burlington 2030 program, which pledges to reduce building energy consumption, water use and transportation emissions collectively 50% by 2030. Recent projects at Champlain in the past three years include the completion of CCM building (3 Green Globes) that included a massive renovation of an existing buildling; continued lighting retrofits funded by our Green Revolving Fund; Joyce Hall renovation - Summer 2016, including additional insulation, new windows, and improved HVAC system; and replacing boilers in three other major buildings.

For scope 3 - waste generated is actually -9 MTCDE, as landfilled waste is sent to a facility with methane capture for electricity.
