Clarkson offers various social sustainability trainings to 100% of Clarkson staff each year. This includes diversity and inclusion trainings, safe space trainings, etc.
Many of the opportunities that are offered are led and organized on the department-level. For example, Clarkson's Institute for a Sustainable Environment hosts an annual professional luncheon for Clarkson staff which is supported by Clarkson through financial support to NoCoPEACS the organization that hosts the event. Staff from 4 neighboring universities as well as key community stakeholders are also invited to join this event. The lunch has many tables, each with a separate sustainability theme (local food procurement, energy management, landscape stewardship, solid waste management, etc). Each discussion leader is assigned to each table and provided with sustainability metrics to review with the group from sources such as AASHE STARS or Climate Smart Communities.

A brief description of how sustainability is included in staff performance reviews :
Social sustainability regarding diversity and inclusion is included as a key value on everyone's performance review. This relates to SDG 5 and SDG 10. Not every staff person and their manager are required to speak to this value but many do. There are 7 values to choose from, and each performance review requires you to select 5 values. Safety is another one of the values that are listed. This is related to SDGs 3, 8, 9, and 11. Being a university with significant laboratory infrastructure dedicated to engineering, safety is a critical component to Clarkson's sustainability progress/impact in our research. The HR department has recently invited Clarkson's Assistant Director of Sustainability on to a committee to update our performance evaluation process. Sustainability will be further integrated into our process for 100% of our staff going forward.
