Part 2. Sustainability-focused certificate program

A brief description of the certificate program(s):
The College’s Center for Continuing and Professional Education features a certificate program in Sustainable Food Systems. The program provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to establish and maintain a small business in farming or food processing.
Students choose to pursue one of two tracks -- sustainable farming practices or food processing. To earn the certificate, students must complete three courses and 11.7 continuing education units.
Continuing education students in the food processing track participate in a 14-week field experience course in food processing where they learn what is required to safely add value to raw produce and marketing techniques. Students in the farming track engage in a 14-week field experience course in sustainable farming where they learn what is required to own and operate a small farm.
