A brief description of the mentoring relationship and activities:
COA has partnered for several years with educators in Japan to lead the establishment of a college program in human ecology in Hiroshima Prefecture, and has completed four summer intensives where students and faculty collaborate on the planning process. The Human Ecology Lab and Island Odyssey (HELIO) program is now offering a year-long college-accredited program for students who agree to travel to College of the Atlantic to complete their education. The HELIO program focuses on how to do field-based, problem-based learning on ecological and sustainable issues related to human ecology.
