A brief description of the program(s), including positive outcomes during the previous three years:
The Faculty Sustainability Scholars program is an ongoing incentive program to expand sustainability curriculum offerings at CC. The program, which commenced in May 2014, includes an annual faculty development workshop entitled Sustainability Across Curriculum. It is designed to support faculty in incorporating sustainability learning in courses broadly across the curriculum (not only in the environmental sciences). The workshop includes programming on broad sustainability concepts, health and wellness, sense of place, and interdisciplinary teaching methods. Each spring, approximately ten professors from a variety of departments participate in the workshop. This has resulted in the re-design of a number of courses to incorporate sustainability topics (full list at the bottom). All faculty who have participated in the workshop come together once a semester to discuss issues related to sustainability curriculum and to share progress in developing courses. They are involved in a continuing conversation about expanding sustainability offerings in the curriculum, including the introduction of a sustainability course designation and the development of a sustainability certificate program.
Courses that have been redesigned by workshop participants to include a sustainability component include: History of Modern South Asia; Public Economics and Policy; Econometrics; Foundations of Environmental Education; Advanced Teaching Methods: Critical Pedagogies in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction; Culturally Responsive Teaching and Disciplinary Literacy Methods; Sustainable Development; Studies in Geology: Introduction to Geodesign; Environmental Economics; Economics of Innovation; Pre-Calculus/Calculus 1; Religion and Colonialism.
