We do some internal education through our PowerED program for faculty and staff as well as make educational presentations on sustainability topics during Sustainability Committee meetings. In addition, our Earth Day Fair has some educational demonstrations of green chemistry, water shortages, etc. for students, faculty, and staff.
A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution :
The Sustainability Office pays to have some faculty and staff attend conferences where they can get additional sustainability professional development and training. Examples include sending two faculty members to an annual US Green Building Council conference in Denver and annual attendance of staff to the AASHE annual conference. Another example is paying for purchasing department staff to attend a Sustainable Purchasing Conference in California to learn more about sustainable products and purchasing policies. Facilities Management staff attend APPA conferences where they get training and professional development opportunities in sustainability. The Sustainability Office also paid for several faculty members to attend the International Institute of Sustainable Labs conference I2SL.
