CSU has a number of offices, officers, and committees devoted to sustainability, notably the President's Sustainability Commission, School of Global Environmental Sustainability, the Student Sustainability Center, and ASCSU (student government) Environmental Affairs. Achievements in the past three years include: o Climate Reality Pledge – in 2017 CSU President committed to 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and then worked with the City and local utility providers to make a similar commitment. o Bee Campus USA – Based on a student idea in 2017, the President’s Sustainability Commission created a subcommittee called Pollinator Friendly Campus Committee and developed a plan to expand pollinator gardens and native plants on campus and also proposed the introduction of several student-run bee hives; within six months CSU was a certified Bee Campus USA and the gardens and hives are thriving. o Living Wage Initiative – the President’s Sustainability Commission joined Faculty Council, Classified Personnel Council, and Administrative Professional Council in endorsing a living wage initiative. In fall 2018, the base pay of the lowest paid staff on campus was raised to $30K. o Ram Food Recovery – Working with ASCSU, CSU’s student governing board, and Housing & Dining Services, the President’s Sustainability Commission endorsed an expansion of the Rams Against Hunger program to make food leftover from catered events available for pick-up by those on campus experiencing food insecurity. During the three-month pilot phase in spring 2019, more than 800 people signed up for the text alert system, more than 20 opportunities were provided for food pick-up, and up to 50 people were able to pick up food at one event. The pilot was so successful it has become a permanent program and the President’s Sustainability Commission has endorsed expanding the program across campus. o STARS Platinum – in 2015 CSU became the first institution to earn a Platinum rating and repeated the feat in 2017. o Sustainability majors or minors have been identified in all eight colleges on campus along with several interdisciplinary sustainability minors.
